“Low Battery Features Disabled” - With Burning Smell

Featured Replies

Wondering if anybody has experienced anything similar or has any ideas on the below….

just started my Edge and had an instant electrical burning smell from the air vents. Not too overpowering but noticeable. No other indications of any problems. Looked under the bonnet and nothing looking off.

Drove 5 miles down the road and stopped to get some food. Whilst sat in the car park with engine running, had the message on dash saying “Low Battery Features Disabled”. Couldn’t find any related message in the manual.

Burning smell appears to have gone now. Just abouts to set off on a 200 mile journey home so fingers crossed. Thought it may be alternator related but I’ve sat here with lights, radio, heater blowing and then stopped and started car three times. No issues starting and no battery indications on the dash. Battery is about 2 years old and have done a couple thousand miles in the last month which is unusual for me but new job means lot of travelling for training so definitely not a low battery issue.

any help appreciated and let you know if I don’t get home!

Use a multimeter and measure the battery State Of Charge 1 hour after it has been parked.

Thanks. Forgot to do after an hour but a day later it was 12.34v which seems ok. Either way, got home ok and no other burning smells/issues since. Will hook up FORScan on laptop when I get chance and see if there’s any issues in the history.

Think I remember seeing something about adjusting the charging level with FORScan so will give that a search and see if that’s something I can do.
