ABS Communication Problem (U0129) CanBus?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Does any one know where to start checking with these error codes. It’s the same error code in each module all saying the same thing. They come back straight away after clearing them, don’t even have to start the car, just ignition on and they come back.
It has the traction light on, and light on, air bag light on, acc unavailable, forward alert malfunction. But everything else works fine. Drives a bit strange through the gears now slightly. No issues with the immobiliser yet. But I’m thinking possibly a damaged canbus wire? The fact ELMConfig and other scan software can read the abs module makes me think that’s not faulty, I even managed to backup the asBuilt data file from the abs module with Forscan (incase I break it).

I’ve got an elm327 with the hi/lo can switch, ELMConfig, Forscan, digital multimeter and know the basics of electronics, continuity and ohms etc, just not sure where or what to start checking.

Check your vehicle battery voltage. Those faults can be caused by a low State Of Charge.

Thanks. I thought maybe the battery but the car hasn’t been used at all for 10 days and it started up straight away yesterday.
I’ve left the battery on charge overnight anyway, and checked it after an hour, and it was sitting around 12.4v. Same codes come straight back, no change.
It’s the same code in all the other modules.

All of those codes are modules complaining that they cannot communicate with the brake control module. I would start by trying to communicate with it myself using a scan tool. Also checking powers and grounds to the module would be next. Then check the communication wires to be sure the lines aren’t open. If you have the right equipment have a look at the communication itself. You could even test the can bus network is complete with a resistance test on the right obd pins.
