Flywheel 2009 mk4 mondeo

Featured Replies

I think I am on borrowed time with my Flywheel, Kind of odd really rattles like mad when cold (Goes when clutch is pressed) but almost goes all together when warmed up 😕.. Obviously clutch/flywheel related but I am lost as to why after a mile or so driving it goes away.. I'm guessing at some point it will do it regardless as it will only get worse, just wondering if anyone else has had this.. Is it early signs or could it be something else...

Cheers.

I would guess that the likely rattle is the clutch release bearing.

Whatever the cause is, you are most probably going to have to replace the clutch.

My worry.. I should say it sounds like a spanner going round in a washing machine rather than a little rattle xD.. Yeeeah time is nearing for a clutch job >.> .. Glad I did timing belt mi self saved 200+ quid there.. Love to tackle clutch mi self but I aint so sure I'll be saving anything as I need extra equipment and tools etc >.> .. We'll see lol

Which engine?  If it's one with a rubber damped crank pulley, check that asap.  When they eventually collapse they often take out the cambelt as well.  Pressing the clutch may be misleading as it's taking strain off of the engine, not necessarily a direct clutch/DMF fault.

If it's a 1.8 TDCI then it probably is the DMF.

2L TDCI mine..   Hmmm... I'll double check tomorrow.. I'm 90% certain no noise is coming from the crank pulley as I went round that area to locate the shot AC compressor.. Seems to be the gearbox side 😞 ... At 150K nearly too.. Just strange how it disappears when warm lol.. Maybe thats a good thing meaning I can get at least 2 months out of it to save for parts ETC lol..
