Anti roll bar bushes?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Firstly, a disclaimer: I'm not a Ford owner!* However, I'm trying to change the anti roll bar bushes on my girlfriend's 2009 Ford Ka and having troubles.

I had anticipated being able to undo the two bolts (per bush), lift the D bracket off, and change the bush in a matter of minutes. However, the D bracket doesn't seem to come apart. Can only assume it is all one piece and traps the bush in place.

Is it therefore necessary to remove the anti roll bar itself to change the bushes and, if so, is it as simple as disconnecting both drop links and pulling out of one end?

Would really appreciate any advice from someone who has done this before. I don't fancy dropping the subframe unless absolutely unavoidable.

*In case you're wondering, a VW Passat B5.5 1.9 TDI is my wagon of choice.

Hi,

Your girlfriend isn't really a Ford owner either.  The 2009 Ka is a Fiat 500 with Ford badges.

The ARB bushes can't be replaced on these.  They come attached to the bar and the whole thing gets replaced as one unit.

Blame Fiat, not Ford.

Absolute madness!

Thanks for your reply anyway.

I hadn't realised it was basically a Fiat 500 but it seems quite obvious in retrospect. We also have one of those in the family.

In case anybody finds this thread while trawling Google for answers like I was, find the PDF attached and linked for info.

It shows how to replace an anti roll bar for a Fiat 500 (same as Ford Ka).

I'm not going to be doing it because, quite frankly, sub frames are beyond my remit.
