Afternoon forum members,  I'm considering a Mondeo diesel estate.  Were they available without DPF, and do they have problems with the rain getting in, like the Focus?  Cheers.

The Mondeo was produced for over 20 years.  You'll need to be a bit more specific with the mark or age range.

No problem.  2007-2014 Mondeo is known as Mk4 in the UK.

The 1.8 TDCI in those all came without a DPF as standard for the UK market.  (However, there was a DPF retrofit available, so there is a very small chance of one having been fitted, depending on who the first owner was.)

As for water leaks, I can't recall any common areas for those on the Mk4.  Though of course, I won't suggest that none of them ever leak.

The weak points for that engine are the fuel injectors, the DMF (flywheel) and they do use both a dry cambelt and wet cambelt.  Often it is only the dry cambelt that gets replaced.

Appreciate the info Tom,  I've a 1.8 tdci lump in my Focus & like it a lot; but I can't cope with the rain ingress anymore.  Hence exploring the Mondeo possibility, for a drier life.  Thanks again.

Tom, If a DPF has been retro-fitted, is removal a straightforward procedure?  Cheers.

Yes.  You would just need to fit a new centre pipe as half of it gets cut out for the DPF.  Cost around £50 and probably half an hours labour at an exhaust garage.  It really is very unlikely though.

I'll think positive then!  Thanks again.

Hello again Tom,

Would you know if the duratorq 2.0 tdci in a 2008 model was DPF-free, or did all the 2litres have them?

Cheers.

I think all of the 2.0 TDCI's have a DPF in Mk4 Mondeo.
