Wet Belt replacement recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi, I have bought a 2015 1L Ecoboost Fiesta on 35,000 miles and someone has warned me about the wet belt issue.

Couple of questions:

1. As the mileage is low and about 9 yrs, will it generally be ok until 60,000 miles irrelevant of age or will the belt still be deteriorating and need doing at 10yrs?

2. Does anyone know the failure rate with respect to number of engines out there?

Thanks

Richard

It’s 10 years or about 100k.

It’s whichever occurs first but in this case I’d say age is worse than mileage.

The failure rate is higher than it should be. I wouldn’t take any chances.

Given yours is low mileage that can exacerbate the issue as the engine may not have got warm enough regularly enough. It may also have missed services if people did it on mileage. I’d probably just get it done now if it was me.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum. :thumbup1:

Be warned, it will be a very expensive bill as it's very labour intensive and expensive special tools are required. It is unlikely even at a small garage a bill of less than £1,000. I was quoted £1,500 at my local dealer when I last asked. However if it's not done and it snaps, say goodbye to your engine!

I have the same scenario. Mine is an October 2014 1.0 ecoboost with 37,000 miles on the clock. Despite changing the oil and filters every year regardless of low annual mileage I will be getting mine done soon. One thing to bear in mind is these 1.0 ecoboost engines are very economical. Coupled with cheap insurance (considering what some people pay) and zero road tax it wouldn't take that many years for the wet belt replacement cost being saved by the insurance, MPG and zero tax. (Just my penny's worth)

It’s not just the risk of snapping. If it deteriorates it blocks the oil channels and starves the engine of lubrication.
