W Reg Ka Alternator

Featured Replies

Hi to All

I am new on here so apologies if this has already been discussed but I could'nt find any topic on the subject.

I have a W reg 1.3 petrol Ford KA.

We broke down on the motorway and the man from RAC said it was the alternator and needed replacing.

The battery light only lights very dimly when the key is turned and stays on very dimly when the engine is running. The battery is very low as it went flat whilst driving and the RAC man just charged it enough to get us off the motorway.

My main question is what needs to be done to get to the alternator?, I can see the bottom bolt from under the car but cannot see how I can get to the top bolts.

Thankyou

Regards

Pete

Hi petetop

this has happened to me.

one thing you could try is checking the carbon brushes they have been known to stick,

if that is the problem it would be cheaper than a new alternator.
