Ford KA Studio - Multiple issues

Featured Replies

I bought my daughter a ford ka studio, its a 2013, manual.

Since having the car she has had problem after problem, the car spat its clutch out on a dual the day she picked it up, the gearbox then gave up, the start stop works as and when it feels like it, the washer jets work as and when they feel like it as well.

She has so far replaced the gearbox, gear linkages and the clutch.

She has just phoned me and said after driving home from work (5 minute drive) she had a warning light for the car overheating, her start stop has again stopped, as have her washer jets and it got stuck in gear that badly it took her and her passenger to get it out of gear.

Have any of you had these issues please? She is losing the will to live with this car.

Thank you.

This is the problem when you own a Fiat 500 🤔

They are not known for being reliable.

Actually that is exactly how it is designed to work, so at least you can take that off your list of problems 🤣

Trouble is, these were built to a tight budget.  The only way to sell new cars that cheaply is to build them with lower quality parts.  Now they're passing 10 years old, I'm not at all surprised that parts are wearing out.

As it's had a clutch and gearbox but still getting stuck in gear, hopefully the garage that fitted those will have another look.  Were the master & slave cylinders replaced?  If not, that'll be the next thing to look at.  If it happens again, try switching the engine off to get it out of gear.

Washer jets could be as simple as a dodgy pump, cheap & easy to replace if so.

Engine overheating is a concern though.  It may just be a faulty sensor, but if it was actually overheating, that needs to be diagnosed asap as there's no point fixing the other parts if the engine is scrap.  First check is to see whether the coolant level has dropped at all.

Get rid, they really aren't a very good car

Get her a 1.25 Fiesta

Thank you so much for your reply, my daughter thinks the slave cylinder was replaced as it was leaking but unsure if the master one was replaced. Thank you.
