I'm considering buying a 2015 mondeo 1.5 econetic manual

Featured Replies

Hi All.

I am considering buying a 2015 Mondeo 1.5 Econetic with around 100k on it.

I know nothing about these cars, so I'm hoping some kind folk on here will help me out with a few questions I have.

1. Are they worth buying?

2. What should I look out for, problem wise?

3. What are the common/not so common faults with them?

4 Are they stupid expensive to fix when they do go wrong?

Cheers

Laurence

1. That depends on the purchase price and your circumstances, not sure we can advise there.

2&3. Very few faults with this engine.  Occasionally get a tank fuel pump failure.  Occasionally get a fuel leak on the low pressure pipes or fuel filter.  Occasionally get minor sensor fault with MAP/MAF/ACT sensor.

4. No.  Ford dealership labour rates are high, but the part costs aren't too bad if you're willing to do the work yourself or use an independent garage.  Also worth getting Forscan so you can avoid dealership diagnostic fees.

Thanks for reply.

They are going for around the 6-10k mark where I am.

Was just looking to see if they were problem cars like some are.

From what you say about problems, they seem OK.

I can do most work myself , so can avoid the dealer labour costs unless it's a major job, so that also helps.

Will definitley get Forscan (good shout).  Always helps to have the diagnostic tools yourself.

Thanks again

Mechanically the Mondeo is one of the better fords . But I that era did suffer from steering rack bolt corrosion. I would check to see if there's any paperwork  a new rack has been fitted in the last few years.  I hope you have tried one already as there not the most entertaining power wise.

Do you intend towing -The 1.5 is not homologated for towing the likes of a caravan

Also worth checking whether the cambelt has been replaced.  It is due at 10 years so factor that into the budget if not already replaced.

Cheers, one to check on.  I did wonder about the power of a 1.5 with a heavy car.  2 litre may be a better option.

It wouldn't be for towing, just a daily driver.

I thought the 2.0 tdci 150hp was only just ok . Better when I remapped it to 210hp. Then it will as a nice car to drive.

Sorry to hijack, but saving a new thread for a similar question as I'm too looking at a 1.5t ecoboost Mondeo 2015... Do these engines suffer the same coolant intrusion issues that's prevelant in the US (I'm in UK)

There's one near me but the photos show the coolant is on the MIN or slightly below - is this something that'd prevent you from viewing / buying (2015, 50k miles, full history minus cambelt)
