Dashcam in Mondeo 2017

Featured Replies

Hello all.
I'm new to the Ford world. Just recently I bought second hand Mondeo from 2017 and I'm attempting to install a dashcam into it, more specifically Viofo A229 Pro.
After spectacular failure and 5 hours spent cursing the heads in Ford for the idiotic placement of the fuze box (for the left-hand market), I just gave up and ran the cable to the cigarette lighter, but that seems to have constant power (or at least it stayed on for a while) for some reason. I worry about running the battery completely dead with this so I just unplugged it for now until I get it resolved, hopefully with you guys' help.
Is there anyone who has experience with this particular dashcam in Mondeo or at least has dug around in that cursed fuze box and knows which fuzes are good for this, I need one constant power and one ACC fuze so I can tap into it with the hardwire kit that comes with the camera. With all my attempts, after trying every non-essential fuze I still couldn't get the dashcam working, or... I ended up with it staying on even after turning off the ignition and locking the doors. Is this some kind of Mondeo's 'feature' that the electronics stay on even after turning it off? The battery seems to point to that, considering my start-stop function doesn't want to work either. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

  • Are you good at reading electrical schematics ?
  • Do you have a multimeter ?
  • Have you got FORScan and a vLinker FS cable ?

Installing the dashcam should be no more difficult on a LHD than it is on the RHD models.

The Mondeo's modules and systems stay awake up to 30 minutes after locking the doors (as it is on most Ford models). The power sockets / cigar lighter sockets remain powered for around 20 minutes, but the exact operation and time is often different for different markets. They can be programmed using FORScan.

  • I can understand them, but I'm not a professional electrician so...
  • yes I do, however, due to the placement of the fuze box, it's impossible to get the probes in there to test which fuze is constant and which is not
  • nope, as I said, a new Ford owner, literally not even a week since I got the car

It's not as much about the installation of the dashcam, it's about the idiotic placement of the fuze box, from what I understood from the research that I've done on this topic before posting this, RHD have the fuze box conveniently under the glove box compartment under like one plastic panel and accessible head on, in my case, it's under the steering wheel, in order to get to it you get to remove the whole plastic cover around the steering wheel, the light control panel, the side panel that touches the door and you still have to fight with it as it's like 40 cm inside and at an angle, so you can't see what you're doing, you can't pull the fuzes out properly or even put them back in without dropping them into depths of who knows where.

Alright, that's good to know information, so maybe my fuze piggyback solution was correct, the car just didn't turn off the systems yet.
