Ford Ka headlight

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm trying to modify the headlights on my street Ka and I cannot get them open, I have oven baked then at 110c plus and the glue will not melt or even soften. Any ideas what to do?

110c is about right for a meringue.  Headlights need a bit more.  Also make sure it's a fan oven for best circulation.  Non-fan will just end up melting the bottom of the cluster.

Thanks, I'll try hotter, it is a fan oven as well btw I was just not sure if I should heat it up more or not but I'll give it a go

It appears even with 200 degrees Celsius the plastics are starting to give up but the seal still hasn't softened 😆

Are they definitely factory sealed?  Just thinking a previous owner might have split them in the past and resealed with some sort of permanent glue instead.

Late to the party on this, but I actually thought that the headlight units on these were 'ultrasonically welded' and so no amount of heating will get them apart.

I believe you are correct, sadly I have gotten another headlight from a different ka and still, no amount of heat will break the seal. Hmmmm probably should've put more thought into this idea of mine😂
