Wiring Diagram Symbol - Help!

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone tell me what the symbol outlined in red means?  Something is wrong in our wiring, and we need to know what this symbol is.  Thanks for any input

This is the Kuga wiring schematics:

I'm assuming that the image is the front view of a connector. In which case it is just the polarising key to stop the wrong plug being put in the wrong socket. In other words a unique shaped bit of plastic.

There's nothing to see in the plug at all.  I wondered if it meant that some of the connectors are joined inside the plug, so that the live wire in 23, feeds others?  I can't find that symbol on any of the diagram keys/legends

Doesn't mean anything. What connector is it?

What is the actual problem you have ?

We have a check engine light and Forscan says Invalid data received from ABS module.  We think there may be bad connections in the C111 plug.  Once we took that plug apart to inspect the pins etc for corrosion, we had other lights come on, and at one time we couldn’t get the selector to move from Park.  Engine started didn’t show a fault, and then deedoo deedoo deeddo Transmission Limited Function.  When the plug was back together, the red power wire in hole 23 had a bad connection, and when we wiggled it, other things connected.  After trying to close up the receiver end of the join, we still weren’t getting a good connection. So in the end my husband connected the red to red wire outside the plug.  We have no washers working on the front windscreen, or  cruise control.  The horn wasn’t working but now is after making a good connection in that plug.  As lots of things affect cruise control, I’ve no idea where to start, but wheel speed sensors have wiring through it, and ABS. We did replace the clockspring as everyone said no horn or Cruise Control generally points to clockspring, and I’m not sure if it had any affect, but C111 plug definitely needs better connections within the plug, as traction control, and airbag lights come one, but wiggling the wires turns them out.  Thinking of wiring the whole thing direct and bypassing plug, but wasn’t sure what that symbol was, and is it something we need to take into consideration?

Strangely the position of C111 is not shown in the schematics that I have, although the electrical connections are all shown in the wiring. If the connector is in poor condition then you would be as well to just remove it and hardwire the connections.

Have you had the instrument cluster solder joints repaired/refurbished ? Many of your "lost communication with " issues are directly connected with dry solder joints on the back of the IC. My daughter has the exact same car as you (2010) which was plagued with random faults and warnings. I took the instrument cluster fully apart and desoldered all of the header pins of the connector and resoldered with real Lead/Tin solder and since then she has had no further problems.

I did that too.  I used to work in a TV factory many moons ago, so decided to have a go myself.  I desoldered, and then resoldered, and all looks well.  We did put the car into an auto electrics place last year, (yes it’s been going on that long)!  They kept it for 3 days, I saw someone out driving it, but thought he was testing it - still not sure he was! When we went back he said he hadn’t found a fault, and didn’t have time until the following week when he wanted to pull the car apart going over the wiring. We weren’t happy after it being in that long, and as we thought they would have sorted it, we’d booked it in for MOT. We said we would take it away, and he said then he had taken the instrument cluster out and checked and it was ok.  We would have lost the money for MOT as couldn’t cancel at short notice, so we took it down, removed the fault codes, and left it.  The light didn’t come on until driven, and as far as we knew they had to drive to test something or other.  Not sure whether they did, but it passed, so we have until October to sort it properly!  So original fault invalid data from ABS module still could be this C111 plug which is definitely causing some other issues!  I think we will just make direct connections.  I’ll let you know what happens!
