Mondeo MK4 BCM - no brake lights

Featured Replies

Advice please. If I connect a temp. replacement BCM to my Mondeo without programming it, will anything work?  My car has no brake lights but

everything else functions. The brake switch has been replaced, the BCM has been dried and cleaned after windscreen fluid ingress discovered.

Fluid in the  BCM is a common Ford problem which I have hopefully resolved by replacing the windscreen washer pump, cutting and adding

connectors to the 2 wires close to the pump (this should discourage the problem caused by capillary action through the wires and sheathing).

I have seen a Youtube video which traced the no brake light problem to a wire showing voltage but unable to carry amperage. I would like to confirm

my BCM being "fried" before going any further, especially as Ford want over £850 just for the part alone plus £140 to read the fault codes!! Their final bill

could be anybody's guess, essentially making the repair uneconomical for a 13 year old car.

If you get a BCM of the exact same part number as yours (the very last letter can be the same or higher) then yes you can use it to 'test' your brake lights. The only big problem will be that the car won't start of course and you will get quite a few warning messages.

You can use the licensed version of FORScan (£12) and a vLinker FS cable (£30) to reprogramme the replacement BCM with your original "AsBuilt" file. Have a look on eBay for a used BCM.
