DPF regen MK4 2.2 tdi

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Mondeo MK4 2008 2.2 tdi titanium that when it does a regen it gets so hot that plumes of smoke comes from the car and people flag me down to tell me my car is smoking. I've done a forscan and there's no error codes. Can the regen be disabled or at least be altered to not burn so hot?

Hi, No it can't be disabled or altered, Only way to do that would be to have the car remapped with the DPF deleted and all DTC codes removed,

How many miles are you doing when these regens are happening have you checked forscan to see when the last regen was?

What colour is the smoke? If the car was getting that hot I would expect the EGT's exhaust gas temperatures to flag a code in the ECU or the EML to come on,

Any boost leaks at all or hissing on acceleration? I think we have the same engine in my 2.2 tdci 2008 Ford Galaxy it took me almost 6 months to find out my issue with smoke and DPF issues on my car was a tiny split in the Intercooler hose it got worse and started smoking like crazy to the point people would flag me on the motorway and in town when accelerating hard

The regen is coming on after about 25 mins of driving at 60mph and smoke is light colored rather than dark smoke

No hissing on acceleration but a very small oil leak from turbo so maybe this is the smoking?

What are the pitfalls of getting the car remapped with the DPF deleted and all DTC codes removed?

That Sounds like the Seals on the Turbo have gone or are leaking or a crack and you are getting oil into the intercooler/exhaust side causing blue/light smoke you could take the lower intercooler pipe off and see if there is oil there could be the oil return pipe quite a few things hard to pinpoint,

I don't think your issue is with the DPF? check on forscan when it last did a regen, If you have an oil leak are you sure it's not doing it around town driving etc?

It's an MOT fail so you would need to have an MOT friend, As for the DPF delete and EGR blanking I've done 3 trips to Amsterdam and one tip to Spain and back + loads of town driving my MPG has gone up around 5% and the car has 210 bhp now and 480nm 3rd 4th and 5th pull like a train now for over a year and 6k miles.

Thanks 2.2tidad , some great points. I'll check the oil leak and get back on the forscan to check for the regen data. I'll also look into a remap.

What was the conclusion, did you find the issue?
