Aerial adapter for aftermarket head unit

Featured Replies

Hi, I am in the process of replacing the Sony DAB head unit but have hit a snag regarding the aerial and have a few questions. I received a fakra to iso connector and a standard aerial adapter, however, the rear of the Sony unit I took out has 2 fakra connectors, one black, one white. Do these both perform the same function? Or is one for dab and the other for fm/am? If so, which is which? First photo shows the leads that connect to the Sony DAB head unit. All advice greatly appreciated.

Based on what I've read in the last 15 minutes of online research, black is DAB and white is FM.

is one of the threads I found covering this subject.

This is the kind of lead you would need to connect the two aerial plugs into one.

I had the opposite problem in that I had to convert the single ISO aerial lead on my Mk2 to twin Fakra male. This was to fit the Sony DAB head unit from a scrapped 2014 Mondeo to my 2006 Mk2 Focus.

Both units used exactly the same quadlock connector for power and the speakers.

What head unit are you replacing it with? As far as I know, most will have separate aerial connectors for FM/MW analogue and DAB.

Hi,  I replaced it with a Kenwood DMX7722dabs with built in wifi for wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. I found the lead I needed on Amazon for £6 with next day delivery as I was already part way through the job.

Had a minor issue where it wouldn't power up and turned out I was sent the wrong vehicle specific loom, (needed a canbus loom).

All sorted now although the auto dimming doesn't work meaning Google maps at night is blindingly bright so might need to pull the unit just to double check connections.
