Auto headlight's problem

Featured Replies

First time post, so I have a 2016 ford edge titanium which I just purchased so still getting to know the car and so far love it. As I tinker I'm finding little problems most of which I have sorted myself, but one that I can't suss is the auto headlight's, with any other car I've had with these fitted as it gets dark or go thru a tunnel the lights come on automatically and during the day they stay off unless of bad weather or dull daylight. With my edge using the headlight control

1st position side lights

2nd position headlight's

3rd position (auto) very briefly the lights stay off and then come on and stay on even in bright sunshine, can anyone shed some light on where, what I should be checking or where the fault might be, I wondered if maybe the sensor is faulty which I think is in the centre of the windscreen?.

Any help greatly appreciated

The sensor in the center of the dashboard next to the windscreen is the 'Sun Load' used by the HVAC system.

The sensor for your auto lights is located behind the rear view mirror stuck on the windscreen. It is possible that you have a faulty sensor BUT, it is quite possible that someone has used FORScan and changed the light settings to Scandinavian mode, and so the head lights are always on when the engine is running.

Are you sure it's ALL your lights on and not just the DRLs at the front? Do you get the green light indicator on the dash?

2016 Edge Titanium

Good morning, is the rain sensor and auto headlight sensor the same sensor, I think it is behind rearview mirror, my rain sensitive wipers and auto headlight's don't seem to be working so was thinking of replacing the sensor but am i looking for 1 or 2 sensors. Thanks for any help

Yes the green warning light comes on, also as I switch from headlights to auto headlights the lights go off briefly and then come back on, even in bright sunshine

Just one sensor, it does both.

Usually the problem is the clear sticky gel pad that holds the sensor on the screen starts to peel away.

Lol no haven't the balls to do it car is now booked into Ford to get sorted seems it may be the sensor which btw is the one on the dash by the bottom of the windscreen and not the one behind the rearview mirror at the top of the windscreen, as the car is under warranty I'll let ford sort it

My apologies if that is the case. I think that this must be a Ford edge thing, as other Ford's do use a combined rain sensor and light sensor.
