Kuga MK2 - Fault that cant be diagnosed

Featured Replies

Hi, I am hoping someone here can help us. We have been having problems for over a year with our MK2 Kuga diesel.

The issues seems to be related to the electrics which I am told are notoriously poorly designed. It will regularly throw up error messages that don`t make sense and go in to limp mode however this is usually a precursor to cutting out while driving or not starting all together with the ignition still working but eventually after a few tries everything dies and even the central locking will not work. Plugging it in to any computer usually show numerous errors that will conflict with each other that baffle garages and Roadside assistance companies alike.

We have had multiple mechanics and garages, including a Ford specialist look in to it and cannot find the root problem. The Battery has been changed twice and a starter motor has been changed, but it still breaks down again after a few days, regardless of whether it has been run for very long or if it has been left on charge.

If anyone has any ideas what we can try please let me know as we are desperate and cannot really afford to replace the car as it is under finance. If further details are needed please let me know.

Adam

altho age is on your vehicles side, may i suggest a cluster fault ?

Hi Jimpster,

What do you mean by cluster fault please?

Sorry I am not very up on these things.

Adam

the solder on the back is well known to be awful due to having zero lead content so gets brittle and breaks throwing up a myriad of odd errors. Solution remove the cluster and resolder the joints.
