Bootlid Jammed

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction here.

I have a 2018 Kuga, its has the powered bootlid.

When loading our pram into the boot, the mrs has managed to get the boot to shut with a piece of webbed strap from the buggy jammed inside the locking mechanism.

now when any one of the boot open buttons are pressed (bootlid, key or dashboard) the actuators try to open the bootlid but the latch wont open.

in order to have a closer look at this i had to cut the fabric, to get the pram out of the way, so there is nothing left to tug on or pull at (it wasnt budging anyway when attached to the pram i was pulling it with everything i had).

from looking at the internal plastics theres is a small access piece that comes off, however there is nothing behind it.

does anyone know of a manual way to release this catch from inside the vehicle, i can't believe the boot is entirely electric with no manual failsafe.

I have spoken to  a few people in the car trade including 2 at ford, who have no idea on how to solve this problem.

literally any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you tried levering the hatch open when simultaneously pressing the 'boot' release?

hi Stephen, yea i have tried it, although not with much force as it were.

However that seems to be quickly becoming the only option, so ill give it another go with a bit more force behind it.

Thank You.

I only suggested it as it worked for me when my other half (!) carelessly loaded a shopping bag in boot and the fabric folded over to jam itself inside the locking mechanism. (She's not even blonde LOL)

OMG NO... no tools, just grabbing the boot handle and giving it a good 'lift' whilst pressing button! Put that chisel away, I know it's 'broken' at the moment, but you may really screw it up using heavy tools 🤣

if it moves slightly get a gemmy in from the inside, less chance of showing any damage if it needs  brute force

I've seen this problem solved on an X-Type Jaguar at the dealership.

Their answer (and it worked) was to press down with all their might on the boot lid. Then someone else pressed the release button on the keyfob and at that moment the two guys pressing down on the boot quickly pulled the boot lid up as fast as they could. Hey presto !! 🎉

Fold the seats and get into the boot, while your MRS presses the release button, kick the boot lid from the inside, it should release.

Mind where you're kicking, you don't want to break anything

Well more than 24 hours have elapsed since the OP was asking for help to open the tailgate. I guess it's not a high priority 🤣
