Finally back to owning a Ford

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As the title states, finally back to owning a Ford in the household after strong-arming my partner to accept a Mondeo is the car she needs because of three very tall kids and the driving she does.

"Trading in" a Mazda 3 for £300 ended up merely costing £150 to buy a Mondeo MK4 2009 Titanium 2.0L TDCi (which was missing a radio, parcel shelf - why is it always the parcel shelf missing at these low car prices?, a couple of rough dents) with everything working.  One of those cars that someone clearly had no idea what they had.  It was disgusting inside and out and needed a £60 valet and it's still drying out 3 days later lol.  Fortunately it had not been abused for long by who we bought it off as they'd only had it about a month however the owner before that had clearly taken care of it for 8 years according to the receipts and service history.

I've been a Ford enthusiast for decades so a few things were very easy to fix, located a local scrappy and got a proper radio - nearly convinced the missus to buy the heated front seats from the donor car haha.  Parcel shelf done, wing mirror fixed (that had a non-ford screw inside apparently holding nothing in place not allowing the outer panel to fit properly??).

Next up is two issues.  The headlining has separated.  I've seen a couple of videos and they seem to hint at 3M 76 spray glue (after removing, separating the fabric, cleaning etc) being a good choice, is this correct?  I would prefer to do a proper job to help keep the strong-arm on my partner haha.  The next one is what I thought to be the clutch or something but it appears to be throttle related.  It BANGS.  Change gear, bang.  Hill start, bang.  Lift off the throttle, bang.  It will happily cruise at motorway speeds - cruise control or no, pulls incredibly well when accelerating - surprisingly well, everything but this bang and the sound of an old diesel is tip-top.  It was likely sat for a couple of week and judging by the few dents driven rather poorly when it wasn't sat in a pub car park getting crapped on by every bird in the county - or quite frankly driven like dog poo.  Would a simple ECU reset resolve this by any chance?  It has been a while since I've been driving normally myself due to ill health so a lot of stuff has been forgotten!

I hope you can help and thanks in advance!
