Ford Edge 2017 cut out with spanner error

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I had my 2017 Ford Edge 2.0 TDCI sport power shift cut out on my after overtaking, i had a amber spanner symbol pop up on the screen and say check manual, I thought it went into limp mode but it literally cut out the stop start button was flashing green and the battery light was on which is the same before you press the brake down to start the car. When I managed to roll to a stop to the side of the dual carriage way I turned it off and back on again it started with no problem or error. I was booting it on the over take too. I have recently purchased the car so worried I brought a banger even though they recently  serviced and had the cam belt changed so was expecting a 100% certified gem of a motor but now worried it’s a banger. Anybody had this issue and can point me in the direction of what it could be would be a life saver.

Use FORScan and read the DTC's and see what the issue is.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

vLinker FS, cable for laptop: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP

vLinker FD, for android phone: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-Bluetooth-vLinker-Scanner-Diagnostic/dp/B08H82WC8L

vLinker FD+, for iPhone: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-Bluetooth-vLinker-Scanner-Diagnostic/dp/B08H8JHWP2

Search Tag:   FORScan123

For just reading the diagnostic trouble codes you can use either of the phone versions (about £7) and of course you will need one of the dongles (android or iPhone)

now done a FORScan on the Edge and it came back with the below Issues, has anyone had these and know the fix, also noticed that it takes a more few cranks then normal first thing in the morning to start, once it has been started it will then start on the first crank after that.

P228C-08-28 - Fuel Pressure Regulator A Exceeded Control Limits - Pressure Too Low

U0415-00-08  -  Invalid Data Received From ABS (Anti Lock Brake System) Control Module A

Was the fuel filter replaced at the service?

The only code there to cause a cut-out is the fuel pressure one.  But it may be genuinely low fuel pressure rather than a sensor/actuator fault.

Need a new battery, try that first.

Then do a DTC clear after you've fitted a new, fully charged, battery and reset BMS using FORScan

Took it back to the dealer (not main dealer) apparently they could smell diesel when they got near the car, so checked the pipes, apparently it was the return pipe off an injector the one nearest the flywheel, seems to have fixed that issue because I boosted it down the motorway home and nothing ran fine,,,,,   BUT now the smell of Diesel is strong and the under tray is drenched in what appears to be Diesel coming from the back of the engine so back to the dealer to get them to have a look

Fuel Filter was replaced on the Service

Has anybody ever had a fuel leak from the back of the engine, it is saturated when looking from the side or under the engine between the gaps of the under tray, there is no diesel where the injectors are and the return fuel pipes are.

There aren't any diesel pipes at the back of this engine.  Fuel pump is driven from the end of the camshaft on the side.  Injectors, rail and fuel filter are all in front of the engine.  If it is diesel I think it must coming from somewhere else and flowing backwards.

Broke down on dual Carriage way, AA came out and found a leak from the High Pressure Fuel Pump, so they delivered it back to the garage I recently brought it from and they replaced it under warranty, seems to be ok now *Fingers Crossed*

The Cut out whilst overtaking is back, but now bringing up a different code, it is mainly happening if I am overtaking on a hill under Load it goes into limp mode with the Yellow Spanner, turn it off and back on again and its like nothing has happened..

Recently had the Engine Oil Pressure Control Solenoid changed due to a P06DD DTC error popping up again from overtaking on a hill under load and putting the car in Limp Mode with the dreaded Yellow Spanner and restarts when turned off and back on like nothing has happened, weirdly enough the same hill,

and yes I am now not driving up that hill 🙂
