Tyre Pressure sensors

Featured Replies

My 2017 Mondeo is displaying a message: "tyre pressure sensor malfunction"

Can someone explain exactly what this means and what to do about it?  I took it to a tyre place and they were quite unhelpful.

I dont know how this system operates so any information or advice would be much appreciated

For a 2017 model, there is likely to be a sensor inside each tyre, attached to the valve.  They all send a wireless signal back to a central module in the car.

Chances are one of the sensors has broken or the battery has gone flat.  You will need a tyre garage to fit a new sensor, it can't be done at home, so I'd recommend finding a more helpful garage.

Thanks Tom - how can you tell which sensor is faulty?

Can FORScan tell you?

I'm not sure, I would imagine it does

Any tyre garage should have a radio scanner that picks up the signals from each sensor.  The sensor not providing any signal is the faulty one.

That makes sense - thank you Tom I'll take it to the tyre centre now

Worth pointing out that the battery inside the sensor (not replaceable) is only expected to last 7 years. Some of course last a little longer and some less.

Personally I've already had one TPMS fail on my 2019 Focus. Does your instrument cluster not display the individual tyre pressures in the menu ?
