New to Forum just bought a Focus ST-Line 150 EcoBoost

Featured Replies

Hi all....just bought a 2017 Focus ST-Line 150 EcoBoost ! So as I understand it I need to watch out for the 'Wet Belt' issue. The mileage is currently at 65,500 and as far as I have read it's good to change the belt at 90k. What's the rough costs for a service and belt change ? and is it a specific oil that the belt must sit in ?

Also what are the must do Mods for this model. Mine has a reversing camera on the SYNC 3 unit but was surprised there was no sensors front and back. I have bought a Tesla style headunit to replace the SYNC 3 as I had a similar Chinese unit in my last car VW CC and it was superb. The standar SYNC unit is a bit boring even with Android Auto.

This Focus doesn't have Cruise Control either which I was used to so has anyone retro-fitted ?

Pleased with the car so far other than being a slight downgrade in tech to my VW CC.

Cheers

Steve.

Someone will correct me, but I thought all the 1.5 ST-Lines were 180PS as the manual 1.0s were 140PS??

And, isn't the 1.5 four pot a dry belt??????

That's a non standard camera or it's had a bump and the wrong bumper fitted. Do the lines on the screen move with the steering wheel?

If you selected rear camera option you got rear park aid included

Fit the switches to the wheel and configure with FORScan to activate CC

I can't see what a Chinese Android unit could do over Carplay/AA?

You could get the 150 PS 1.5 at least at one point in time, I had a late 2014 Zetec S 150 PS before it was rebranded to ST-Line.

And yes the 1.5 4 pot in this will be normal external dry cam belt.

There's a chance that's not an ST-Line then, but a late ZS which has been de-chromed (it doesn't have the ST-Line badges on the wings)

Plus:

You shouldn't even have Sync 3 so there's been some messing about done

I think the ST-Line replaced the Zetec S from late 2016, so a 2017 could well be a genuine ST-Line. Likewise, as Alex mentioned, from launch it was offered with both the 150 and 182ps versions of the 1.5. The 140ps 1.0 came pretty late in the run of the Mk 3.5 iirc.

I have an idea you could get Sync 3 as a cost option, though 2 would be standard.**

Edit: just found this in a contemporary road test (Auto Express):

"Our car made do with the dated SYNC2 infotainment system, but the fresher SYNC3 setup is a worthwhile £300 option. It adds loads more functionality, including pinch-to-zoom maps and app connectivity."

There are 11 2017 1.5 EcoBoost 150 ST-Lines on Autotrader right now.

My mistake again, I had 2015 in my head, sorry

That settles that then

And Sync 3 was standard by then

Sussed it:

All ST-Line Xs were 140 or 180 (manual)

NB there's a downloadable PDF guide on page 11 of that thread which looks as if it might be useful.

You're confusing the petrol & diesel engines.

1.5 EcoBlue (diesel) - Dry timing belt, small cam chain, direct oil pump drive.

1.5 EcoBoost (petrol) - Timing chain, wetbelt for oil pump drive.

Yes the 1.5 EcoBlue is at least partly made by Peugeot.  As the successive 1.4/1.5/1.6 TDCI has been for the past 20 years.

The 2.0 EcoBlue is full Ford, that's why it has wetbelts and is less reliable.

With regards to diesel, Ford changed from 1.5 TDCi (8v) to 1.5 EcoBlue (16v) when the Mk4 Focus was released in 2018.

With regards to petrol, Ford changed from the old 1.5 EcoBoost (4 cylinder dry belt) to the new 1.5 EcoBoost (3 cylinder, chain, oilpump wetbelt) when the Mk4 Focus was released in 2018.  Very early Mk4 1.5 EcoBoost came with a gear driven oil pump, so no wetbelt, but that is not relevant when you are looking at a 2021 model.

Now I'm confused. OP has a Mk 3.5 1.5 (4 cyl, dry belt). Tom's post quoted above related to the 1.5 petrol and diesel options on the Mk 4?

Seemed simple to me but perhaps I missed the point.

Tom said "Ford changed from the old 1.5 EcoBoost (4 cylinder dry belt)" meaning to me that the Focus before the Mk4 was indeed a 4 cylinder with a dry timing belt. Thus confirming what Dave had said earlier.

Hi welcome

It's defo an ST-Line as I HPI'd the car before buying image.png.8a0fc4cb28eaff8a88fbc6ee072a9925.png

Got my Android Headunit delivered and will fit on Monday. These units are so much better than oem headunits of this age of car. If it was say a 2018 onwards Audi I'd just leave it alone and use a digi-dash unit. The camera lines move with the wheel but still odd there's no sensors.

The car came with a SYNC3 unit but I've just changed from that to this AliExpress Android unit.
