DPF ?

Featured Replies

(1) Does a C-MAX 2.0L TDCI 2014 Diesel have a DPF?

(2) If so do you have to add an additive into the fuel every so often?

(3) How often?

Yes, it has a DPF.

No, it does not require any additive.

Is it ok to put Cataclean every 3 months just to make sure?

Cataclean is designed for cats.  It is not designed to keep a DPF free from soot.

The Eolys additive required for older Fords basically just made the soot burn more easily at lower temperatures.  It is no longer required on newer Fords because the DPF's have an internal coating that does the same thing.

There should be no harm in using Cataclean every 3 months.  But I would consider that to be unnecessary and a waste of money personally.

I am sorry what do you mean about CATS? Is the Eolys additive still required on my C Max 2015 model?

Cat = Catalytic converter

That is the part that turns deadly carbon monoxide into less harmful carbon dioxide.  They are of more use on petrol cars but still used on diesels.

Diesel cars from around 2004 have a DPF which is a totally separate part.  That collects soot, and then sets light to it once every 300 miles or so, known as DPF regeneration.

The Eolys fluid is not required on a 2015 model.  It uses a coated DPF instead.

You can run DPF cleaner in every tank, if you want to.

It won't do any harm

Do you have an idea of how to activate DPF regeneration manually? What I mean is that you don't need to get to 300 miles for it to start.

The only way to do that is using diagnostic software.

You may be able to trick it into starting by using very high revs & load while on the road.  Foot hard down in 3rd gear uphill somewhere safe.  That creates a high pressure in the DPF which should force it to start a regen.

Can I also do it on a Motorway making sure to stay at 2.5k - 3k RPM  driving for 15 minutes?

No, that won't trigger a regen.  You really need to get the exhaust pressure up to make it start in the first place.  Cruising at 3k doesn't produce much exhaust pressure as there's fairly low load on the engine.

After the regen has started, then it helps to keep the revs up and avoid stop/start traffic so it completes more quickly.  If you can still hear the radiator fan running when you slow down, the regen is still in progress.  (Keep AC off if listening for the fan)
