Mondeo Sync 3 OEM type boot handle reverse camera MUST READ!

Featured Replies

Hi All, for anyone who has Mondeo, im not sure from which mark onwards the APIM cable harness behind the sync 3 is already Wired and the wiring is taken to the back of the car - on the passenger side in the boot under the parcel shelf is a green connector block.

I was getting quoted quoted £300 for the kit and £350 for Labour = £650

I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS YOURS DO NOT WORK OR YOU DAMAGE YOUR CAR OR SOFTWARE OR SYSTEM. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

The green connector block has the following wires that you will need.

1. white and green wire for VIDEO+

2. Brown and Purple for VIDEO-

3. Brown and Yellow wire for Power (12V)

4. Black and Grey for earth/ground.

I took power from the reverse Light because i was not aware of this green connector block and connected to VIDEO + and - for video signal and it works perfectly.

I cut off the RCA end of the cable and striped the wire and connected the green wire to the white and green and the black wire to the brown and purple using T Taps.

I then stripped the other end of the RCA cable that goes to the camera and connected green to green and black to black using Wago blocks.

I then used FORScan to "enable" the REAR VEHICLE CAMERA function.

I downloaded FORScan on my Mac for free (the 2 months extended licence is what you need otherwise you cant do it) and bought a £20 Wireless OBDII Fault and code reader (BRAND is "Streetwize").

OBDII = £20

FORScan = Free

Camera = £20

Total = 40

APIM cable harness for £10 which i did not use at all and can't return it because i threw away the packaging.

Saved = £600!

Please bare in mind that a £20 camera will give you the results of a £20 camera the quality is not 4K or 2K or 1080P i think it is 560P between 480P and 720P. regardless it does the job i am happy that i can see clearly what is anything or anyone is on my rear end every time i reverse. i have tested in daylight and night time it works and is decent. my mom has a Mercedes and her car reverse camera is like 2K clear picture. so dont expect that from £20.

Hope this helps anyone else out because i struggled so much. i watched over 100 youtube videos because i couldn't find anyone who had my car and who fitted a reverse camera. i was on this forum reading and reading and reading the mondeo section but no luck. the information was not all here and it was in dribs and drabs. anyway this was my first time fitting a OEM type boot handle camera.

this is the camera i used.
