Ford Kuga PHEV SOBDMC

Featured Replies

Hello everybody, I’m new to the forum. We picked up a 2020 Ford Kuga PHEV last month. It has been into ford today to have one of its outstanding recalls done. On the visual health check everything looks good. However, they have mentioned that the under cover is damaged and the (SOBDMC) is dented. I don’t really know what the SOBDMC is, I’m guessing some kind of ECU?

1. is this something to worry about?

2. Is there any replacements? If so are they typically thousands of pounds 😂

thanks in advance.

Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module  - C

Dented or otherwise it must still be working. Leave it alone unless Ford are going to pay to replace it.

It is in a daft location under the car subject to damage. Later vehicles had a metal protector to stop damage.

What's it's exact purpose?  The phrase 'Diagnostic Control' suggests it's only looking for faults which doesn't sound like something an entire module would be needed for.

Does it have a nickname or is it attached to another part as there aren't any for sale on ebay currently.

The primary purpose is to convert ac charging to  a DC voltage to charge the main hv battery.

Thanks Ian.  That's my new thing learnt for today.

And tomorrow?
