I'm considering changing my Mini Cooper SD for a Ford diesel.

I will use this car to start off my driving instructors career. Will keep it for up to 2 years.

It needs to be a manual gearbox.

I'm not sure which is best for reliability and economy.

My budget is about £7k.

Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.

Wouldn't go for a modern diesel of any manufacturer as a driver instructor car.

Toyota Yaris petrol manual or honda jazz petrol manual. Both have good visibility all round.

Why?

Modern diesels don't like short stop start journeys with all the emmision control devices involved.

Don't want first time learners in a petrol.  They'll be stalling every few yards!  Most DI cars are still diesel around here.
