1.0 Ecoboost wet belt cost

Featured Replies

My 2014 1.0 Fiesta is coming up to 10 years old later this year. Leaving it a bit late for wet belt replacement I know, but I got a quote from Cedar Garage in Worthing yesterday:

£1370 all in - that's for a new timing wet belt, new oil pump wet belt and oil strainer cleaning. I will probably go for new oil pump and coolant pump seeing as they will have it in bits so a good time to have it done. I have weighed up the pros and cons with the cost and the pros win. Drawback is they need the car for two days and aren't open Saturdays so will need to take time off work as I live in Eastleigh, but a bearable inconvenience. Hope this info helps someone thinking about costs for wet belt replacement

Im relatively local to Worthing, let me know how you get on when you get the work done, as we might take ours there if it goes well.

Did you go ahead with this?

On the same topic but different area, just been chatting to a friend with a 2015 1.0 Ecoboost. Booked in tomorrow for a wet belt replacement, at his usual servicing garage (West Yorks).

This place was once a small Ford dealer, but now independent and part of a small service/repair group these days. My friend has been going there since his first Fiesta in 1979!  Anyway, they have quoted him £800 - I've advised him to ensure it includes oil pump belt and inspection/cleaning the strainer. They say they have done several already.

I await his feedback and will add details and recommendation/warning depending on how it goes!

My friend has now got back to me and seems happy with the work done.

As mentioned, the quote was £800 (incl vat) but he had a couple of other jobs done at the same time (brake pads/part exhaust) so the total was around £950. I haven't seen the full breakdown yet but the oil pump belt was included. They had the car for two full days.

I'm thinking of getting mine done on my 2016 ecoboost  it's only just turned over to 80000 miles, so will need doing soon ish although not same area of UK it gives me an idea of cost & time so thanks!

Hi Mark

Thanks for posting on this subject. My fiesta is also nearing the age to require this work.   If you have any updates that would be useful.

Personally I think its a very good idea to share this information so we all know not only the cost BUT additionally then know of garages that will perform this work AND to the high standard required (- how would we know though?).

One pet hate of mine is the inability of main dealers servicing to get even things like the oil level CORRECT.

I say this because invariably I find following service that the oil level is around 12mm above the full mark on the dipstick!

I have taken it back but it was still returned 6mm above full - always the excuse being that they fill with Fords stated quantity - !

Now forgive me for being a cynical but overfilling the oil IS detrimental to the oil and therefore the engine - does it hasten wet belt failure ??.

See Fords video at 3.0 mins in.

Just bought a fiesta eco boost 2015 with 94,000 on clock, so wet belt needs done. Have had two quotes, one for £900 and the other from a garage very near to the other for £1450. The cheaper garage specialises in wet belts and has many good local reviews with videos of his work. So shop around.

Just booked mine in for wet belts and water pump at a local independent garage in Nottingham for £900.

Hi, how did it all go? Has your friends car been problem free since the wet belt change? I have just emailed them for a quote and they have told me they can do it for £1100 including vat and all ancillaries.

Hi Graham. Yes, I've heard of no problems since then. We were out for one of our regular walks the other week and were chatting about the car, which is still running well, now in the care of his daughter and grandson.

Looks as if prices might have nudged up a bit since, though!

Got mine back and the mechanic said that I had just had it done in time. There was a tooth missing off the belt apparently and it's only done 36,000 miles and 8 years old.

You were lucky there then. Mine came off at 69,500 miles and 8 years old and it looks like brand new complete with all the writing still on (but stinking of used engine oil). I have the cambelt and oil pump belt hanging on the wall out in my garage as a souvenir of an expensive day out. They didn't even find any belt debris on the oil pump pick up strainer when they took the sump off to check it. I assume you've had a new water pump fitted as well. I think it comes as part of the wet belts kit.

Yes I did. I think the main reason mine was in such a state was all the short journeys it's done.

Hi Bob,

I'm relatively local to Nottingham and have a fiesta that's also in need of a belt / pump change. Could I ask where abouts you went for this?

Thanks

Can I recommend ACN motors in tamworth?

£700 for wet belt replacement with genuine parts by a garage that knows ecoboost.

I'm not local but made a day of it, got them to do some other jobs too (brake fluid, gear oil, water pump) and take pics etc

Could not fault a thing.

For me, wasn't the money, it was having someone who knows ecoboost and cares.....

All done in the day? That's good going 😁

If you are asking me, yes, got it back by 3 IIRC

Its pretty much their core business so they do them day in day out and do extras like removing turbo filter which I've not seen anyone else meniton. 100% they did it as have pics of the car in 1001 bits and I could feel the difference with brakes/handbrake and gearbox quieter. (pics of my old belt and oil pickup were also vv good :) )

Its not a swanky showroom. But as I said above, I would prefer to pay for an expert/enthusiast who cares than a dealer who bonuses staff on turnaround....

I've recommended someone else to go and they got back to me and thanked me as they were happy too.

NO AFFILIATION - just someone recommended them to me and they were worth a night in a hotel in Tamworth (!) (just lol)

Hi,

I’m thinking about buying a 68 Plate Fiesta ST-Line 140. It’s coming up to 8 years old with 54K on the clock. If I was to buy it, would it be recommended that I get a timing/pump belt change, get the strainer cleaned and turbo filter changed as soon as? They say the belts last for about 10 years but would it be advisable to go on the side of caution and get it done asap?

I would. Knowing its all clear takes the stress away. Then just frequent oil changes with the correct oil and your odds of hassle free life improve
