Intermittent engine management p2196 ongoing issues

Featured Replies

Hi I am hoping that someone can help. I have had my 1.0 ecoboost grand cmax 2016 for a year and been having an intermittent engine management light randomly coming and going since I had it about a year ago. I have had numerous O2 sensors ford dealer fitted also new CAT fitted by a ford garage still no change. Other issues are the stop start does not always work and gets stuck in idle when it should turn the engine off, a sucking noise from the petrol intake at times, I understand p2196 is bank 1 stuck in rich mode. But after 4-5 O2 sensors it surely can not be this being the problem. Any suggestion would be great and I will be very grateful

There is a fairly common issue with new O2 sensors on these.  Seems to be fixed by either a PCM update or something be reset in the PCM.  Unfortunately this is only second hand information and the dealers seem to be very vague in what's actually being done.  If yours have been done at a dealership then I would expect them to have done this but would be worth asking.

It's also possible that the MAP sensor is starting to fail, enough to make the engine over fuel, but not enough to trigger a MAP fault code.  So it might be worth trying a new one, or even borrowing one from another car if possible.

Thank you for you reply. I have been researching this on the Internet which has been telling me to change the purge valve although this seems to be working fine. So it is very helpful thank you.

Hello!

I’m very curious if you’ve found the problem?

I have Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost 2017 with the exact same problems as you are experiencing. P2196, start/stop issues, sucking nois from fuel cap.

I already changed the o2 sensor on bank 1 for an aftermarket one. Code kept coming back so went to the dealer, they then placed an original o2 sensor. But still the engine light comes on every now and then…
