Focus Rear Bumper replacement

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

First big thanks for reading, any help is always appreciated.

Managed to back into a pole in a car park and gave myself a nasty dent, popped it out back into shape but rather than trying to fix the paintwork I figured I'd be better off just replacing the entire rear bumper assembly.

Car is a 2017 Focus 1.6 Diesel, haven't figured out how to narrow it further down, I haven't managed to source an oem bumper or even a non-damaged one, but at least a few in better nick than mine.

The best one so far is the same colour but has 6 rear parking sensors whereas mine only has 4, does anyone know if I'll still be able to swap this in, will the car just ignore the extra 2 sensors? Can I do a software upgrade to add the extra two to the display unit? Or am I stuck with trying to find an exact replacement?

If anyone has any advice on sourcing a replacement I'd really appreciate the advice! Thanks!

The 2 extra sensors are for the self-parking feature.  A lot more involved than just a software update to retrofit that.  However, the other 4 sensors will work fine as long as you just swap your 4-sensor wiring loom from the damaged bumper to the replacement.

2017 will be a Mk3 facelift, or Mk3.5, if that helps with the search.  There were different bumpers for comfort and sport models so you should search by spec as well as year or mark.

That's really helpful, thanks! Managed to narrow it down to a Mk3 but had no idea how to differentiate between the regular, face-lift or 3.5 version. Any tips to narrow it down? Can't see the word 'sport' anywhere so I'm guessing it's likely the comfort version.

Great to know I could just ignore the extra 2 sensors, would you say it's a difficult job to swap the wiring looms? Also, do you know if I'll have to take it to a mechanic to reprogram the new sensors after fitting or is it more of a plug-and-play kinda deal?

2014-2018 is the Mk3 facelift version.  Mk3.5 is just a shorter nickname for the same model.

The trim levels aren't actually called comfort or sport, there are loads of them, but they all fit into one of those two categories.  They're called things like Titanium or ST-Line.  If you have a look at the logbook it'll tell you which it is.  Or put your reg into a free car checking website such as this to see what model name that shows - https://totalcarcheck.co.uk/

That part of the wiring loom will be very easy to swap over.  It's all plug and play, no programming needed.
