Keys not working

Featured Replies

After recently putting a new battery in the car after a short period of it being off the road both keys no longer work?

any ideas? I replaced both batteries in the keys and still nothing

Do they not open/close the car, or not start it as well?

Check the 'new' batteries you installed in key fobs...

Check battery is the right way up

Check you have removed the clear protective film on it so it makes a good contact with the fob (use nail polish remover or similar)

Check that it is touching the metal tabs of the battery holder.

Check the battery is good and pushing out 3.3v (just because it's new, don't assume it's good)

Needs no programming, should work straight away...

Correct 👍

The remote door lock/unlock reset procedure is to use the metal key blade and manually lock and unlock the doors 3 times in under 10 seconds.

Well, I never knew that, must add that snippet to my repertoire! 😃

It's the same reset for when you keep getting the warning on the instrument cluster saying 'keyfob battery is low' but you have already fitted a good new one.

Sometimes it seems the lock/unlock just needs a kick up the backside to make it wake-up

I tired a few different new key batteries, I’ve tried the lock and unlock 3 times. Still no joy it’s said the keys are both dead. It starts if I put the key in the slot and once it’s started I can remove it. It bleeps if the door is opened and says no key but the car drives normally I’m at a loss of what to do

And no they don’t unlock the car either they don’t work at all

I think you'll have to get a locksmith out to reprogram the fobs to the car.  It's rare but sometimes the codes do get lost when the battery has been flat for a while.

Do yourself a favour. Pony up for a cheap multimeter, under a tenner. If you use it for nothing else for the rest of your life to only test the voltage of any battery, it'll be worth it. Fob ones when new will push out 3.3v.
