Noob questions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just joined the Ford club, got myself a low mileage 2017 Edge Titanium. Just a couple of quick questions:

1. Is the membership worth the money?

2. Anyone upgraded the front/rear brakes?

3. Anything problematic that I should look out for/get checked?

Look forward to your hints and tips. 😁

Welcome! :driving:

I can't help you with the Edge questions, but I paid for the 2yr premium membership back in 2018 when the Halfords discount was something like 15%. It's only 8% now but could still be worth it. I get 10% through another car club so I've not renewed, despite the site still saying I'm still a "supporter". Have a look at the other discounts in the link at the bottom of the page.

I'm still a fully paid up member and havent got a ford any more. 😂

if auto gearbox oil and filter needs changing at the intervals suggested

If you have the wet belt engine, make sure the oil is changed every .. say 10000miles or once a year. Follow Ford oil spec to the letter. Get belt changed no later than 80,000 miles, Make sure it's changed by a garage that does Wet belts, late transit customs have wet belts, same basic engine in a Ford Edge, some garages specialise in Ford wet belts.

If Automatic transmission- Gearbox has dry clutch instead of torque converter, later boxes had the clutch redesigned and the actuators reconfigured to ease up on the clutch, make sure the autobox oil and filter is done every 60000miles, slip modifiers breakdown over the years, fresh oil and filters help keep the valve body and internal clutches in good health.

Bottom return on the doors suffer from insufficient protection and can develop surface rust, a paint shop can address the problem

The Panoramic roof glass can crack, get insurance cover. Replacement is £2800 for the front section, luckily this happened at the dealership and they had to suffer the cost to sell us the car!

Rear tailgate flexes and can lead to problems opening and closing, number of cases recorded on forums and youtube as bad panel fit, newish cars sorted under Ford warranty.

Strict maintenance reaps rewards, Basically a good car, my partner loves it, she prefers it over the Kuga.
