Main beam problems

Featured Replies

Has anyone had problems with the main beam working for a short time only and then turning off?

This happens on the auto light setting and the manual setting.

If the engine is turned off then on again - same thing- main beam comes on then turns off after a few seconds.

Thank

Has the car only just started doing this?

Have you changed the bulbs for uprated ones?

Not changed any bulbs, only had the car 3 weeks purchased in daylight. It only has 29k miles on clock.

Took the car to Brookland Ford Redditch and they couldn't analyse the problem. They said it may need 2 headlights at £2000 each - NO WAY.

If you bought from a dealer, take it back for them to fix.

If bought privately, the first thing I would check is that it has the correct bulbs fitted, if they are the standard halogen lights.

If you've only had it 3 weeks, it's a dealers problem to fix it. As Alan said, if a private sale, check what lamps are fitted to see if they are the correct halogen types or if LED replacements have been fitted in place of the halogens. If they are adaptive LED headlights, then the fix is expensive ... usually a upgrade of the firmware or replacement units!
