Throttle position sensor

Featured Replies

I’ve got a 1.8 58 plate Ford focus and been told it needs a new throttle position sensor. Do I need to buy the full throttle pedal or can I just get the sensor?

Thanks

Should be able to buy a full pedal on eBay for around £20.

There are two throttle position sensors so check that is the one you need.  One in the pedal.  And the other in the throttle body.

A need the one on the pedal apparently

Ok.  The sensor was never sold separately so you will need to buy the full pedal.  I think they're probably almost all compatible on Mk2's though it's worth matching the part numbers to your own if you can.

So I replaced the pedal and no change sadly. Revs still up and down. Is the other sensor on the throttle body itself?

That's a shame.  The other one is inside the throttle body.  Can't be replaced on it's own, the whole TB needs to be changed.  Though it may also be a wiring fault if the fault code was pointing to the pedal sensor.

Would I have to trace the wiring back from the pedal onwards to look for something not right?

Yes, if that's what the code was for, you'll need to test from pedal to engine ECU.  But it'll be waste of time if the code was for the other sensor.  We'd need to know exactly what the code was ideally.

A took throttle body off to have another look does all look good with this?

There's nothing to see there really.  The sensor is under the plastic part.  But I don't think it'll 'look' broken even if you could see it.
