Uniroyal Tyres fitted to Ford Edge.

Featured Replies

I recently had  2 Uniroyal Rainsport 5 255 /45/R20/105Y XL (extra load)Tyres fitted to the front of my 2017 Ford Edge Sport 210. The reviews for these tyres were very good, so had the fronts done, and need 2 more on the back in the near future. The issue I have is that they are so noisy at various speeds, but 65 mph being really noticeable. The Road noise is really obvious. My previous Nexen tyres were nothing like it. My wheel bearings are OK, I've had them checked, and the tyre supplier and Continental UK who make the tyres will only say it's normal, and my only option is to purchase 2 new tyres, and send mine to to Continental UK to be tested. Has anyone on  here had a noise issue with these tyres on an Edge ? I am wondering wether or not the "Y" XL ratings are correct for my Edge ? ( recommended by the fitters) but Y speed rating does seem excessive for an Edge..Any advice would be welcome.

Ah, right. The noise tyres make tend to be caused by the tread pattern, so the only way to get rid of the noise is fit some different tyres.

As regards the size and ratings, have you checked what tyres are fitted as standard? You will find this in the handbook, or on the tyre pressure plate on the vehicle.

If the previous tyres were satisfactory, I would have stuck with that make.

It's not just about speed, it is also about lateral forces on the side walls and also the potential torque that the tyres may be subjected to.
