Kuga FHEV AWD

Featured Replies

Just traded in my nearly 4 year old AWD EcoBlue Diesel for a FHEV Petrol AWD, both ST Line X and have to say, first impressions are very good. I’m nowhere near ready for fully electric and have no interest in plugging in to get only 40 miles ish of range, so feel the FHEV is a better option all round.  CVT gearbox is my only concern but haven’t had any issues as yet. Still need to try towing, as I got the electrically deployable towbar.  Nice to see at the end of each journey, how many miles have been electric only and it’s more than I had anticipated.

Just a slight update in case anyone is remotely interested.  I did a 27 mile journey yesterday, with mixed A road, B road, dual carriageway and town driving.  Just over 9 miles of the 27 was on electric only.  I’m surprised and quite happy that the car runs on purely electric as much as it does.  Not that I have any choice as the FHEV just does it’s thing automatically and unlike the PHEV, you can’t choose when to and when not to drive on electric.

The best way to use a PHEV or HEV is to get maximum fuel economy, not EV range.

If you deplete the EV charge the vehicle has no choice but to run on ICE only, which is dragging a very heavy dead battery, which uses way more Petrol than a standard ICE vehicle.

Use the Hybrid system to assist the engine at all times, you will then find you get Diesel levels of MPG, for Petrol costs (But for twice the purchase price, which is why I stick to Diesel)

As Edge says - it's out of your hands!

BTW I know two people who have Kia Niro FHEV and they talk about 55-60 mpg winter and 65-70 mpg summer. My Mondeo gives me 45-50 winter and 50-55 summer. And that's driving like an old woman. Oops, am I allowed to say that???
