Does forscan show issues with no warning lights?

Featured Replies

65 reg petrol B max. Stuttering/shuddering when pressing accelerator firmly for example up a hill to accelerate.

This is probably a failing spark plug, O2 sensor etc.

Will a free version of forscan give me some idea what the problem is? Rather sort it myself. Helps to know which it is before I replace bits out  lol

Thanks

Forscan does show silent fault codes.  But there won't be one in every case.

You can also use Forscan for live data from sensors etc, though that is a bit more involved.

There were quite a few petrol engine choices for the B-Max or that age, does you know which one it is?

I don't know which, all I know is it's thrashed to buggery, 5000rpm at low speeds etc, mums not keen on high gears in built up areas...

If you post the Reg. or the VIN number, I'll get you the build sheet with the engine type.

Do you know the reg?  As it's a manual that rules out the 1.6 petrol.  So it's now either 1.0 EcoBoost or 1.4 Zetec.  They are very different engines with very different common faults though.

Its probably the 1.4 zetec then. It doesn't have a wet belt. VU65 cxo

Half the reg hasn't narrowed it down any further.

If we're assuming it is the 1.4 Zetec then the first check should be the oil breather pipe under the plastic inlet manifold.  They split and allow excess air into the engine, bypassing the throttle body and creating a lean air/fuel ratio.

If it's worse when hot then I'd be looking at the coil pack.  If it hasn't had spark plugs replaced then they probably need changing anyway.

It's VU65 CXO.

I'll check for any cracks in the pipe but I'm not familiar with the engine, I'm a focus owner myself. Anyone got a image location of the breather pipe? There might be some noises and smell too under load almost like a clutch burning smell but I can't be certain it's related.

My crappy Kia picanto used to stutter up hills under a firm pedal press, ABS light would come on, you could spent so much money changing things and still not get it right.

Here are the vechicle details:

It's a 1.4 Duratec Sigma 16V

Yes, that's a 1.4 Zetec.  It was also used in Fiesta & Focus in previous years.  And is virtually identical to the 1.25 and 1.6 Zetec engines as well.

There are lots of threads about the oil breather on here, but the search function is terrible.  Here's just one...
