Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself and my car. I have a 2012 Ford Focus Zetec 1.0 ecoboost with just under 92,000 miles. I have owned this car for 2 years and it has never skipped a beat, I have been advised though that because of the wet belt in them I should now sell it as they are crap, after a quick look at the service history, it has full history, I can't see that this has ever been done. What do you guys think and how much would it cost to replace if I where to do it my self. TIA

It's potentially 3 years overdue now.  Very few last this long so there is a high chance that's it's already been changed or had a new engine (including belt) under warranty.

If it hasn't been done then yes it needs doing asap now.  Not sure on DIY costs, probably around £400 in parts now.  But it does require a few special tools as well, which either need to be bought, borrowed or rented.

Hi Tom, thank you for your reply, it does mention in the service history that the water pump has been done but nothing about the wet belt, are these normally done at the same time like on VAG vehicles.

It can be done separately, as shown here:

NB it can also be done separately on the VAG 1.0  triples - the pump is at the opposite end of the engine to the cambelt on those.

As above, the waterpump is driven by the aux belt on these, no need to touch the cambelt to change it.

Often the waterpump is changed at the same time as the cambelt though, so if it's only recently been done, then at least you won't need to change the waterpump again which saves a bit of time and money.

This is a bit of a worry with GDPR these days and reluctance to pass on details to new owners. It's not covered by a normal service stamp so how do you find out if it's been done?

Buy privately.

Or have the gov't force manufacturers to provide public access to DSR.  As they should have done a decade ago.
