Road traffic sign - speed warning.

Featured Replies

I was wondering whether anyone might have in insight into what might be going on here.

I recently took a trip to Europe in my 2017 Edge and whilst I was over there I changed all the dash settings to display km and km/h.  Everything was working ok.  Since being back in the UK I have noticed that the road sign recognition speed warnings (flashing symbol and chime) stills seems to be stuck on kph despite everything being back on mph.  So when I enter a 30mph area I get the chime and flashing symbol if I am traveling above 19mph (30kph)!

This did not happen after a similar trip 3 months earlier.  I’m sure it might just be a missing setting but it is driving me daft trying to sort.  I might need to give in and visit the local dealer.

Before I do I just thought it worth asking here as there seems to be a wealth of knowledge in this forum.  Any ideas please?

Been in there.  Lost count of how many times I have switched it off/on.  The odd thing in there is despite everything being set to miles the speed warning tollerance groupings are displayed in kph.  What I don't know is a. is that normal, b. where to change it if not normal.

If in doubt go for a full "Japanese" reset !!!

Disconnect the negative lead of the battery for 20 minutes and then reconnect. Wait 5 minutes before you turn the ignition which will cause all modules to 'reboot'.

No radio code needed on your model, but you will need to reset the 'one touch' window function.

Having given my local Ford workshop the opportunity to try and fix this and now they are scratching thier heads I have resorted to the "Japanese reset"!  Despite leaving power disconnected for about 40 minutes it has not fixed the issue.  Also, surprisingly I didn't need to reset the window one touch function!

Any further advice would be gratefully received.

What version of Sync do you have ?

Have you checked that the map scale (very bottom of the map) is selected for miles ?

Did Ford not check for and install a software update?

They should report the glitch to Ford technical so they can investigate.

I would imagine doing a module reset in FORScan would solve it

They looked for an instrument cluster update but I don't think they know, and I certainly don't know, which module the traffic sign recognition software resided in.  They tell me they have a guy in Doncaster who is the "expert" so they were going to ask him.  So a bit more waiting I think.

I have Sync 3 and the map range scale is in miles but does change when I select the measuring units to metric.

Quick update.  My traffic Sign Recognition speed warning now works correctly!  No amount of master resetting or Ford investigation helped.

What did help was I drove across the Scottish border!!!!

As soon as I crossed the pale lilac line marking the border the next time I passed a sign all was good.  Now back in England and still working properly.  I have since noticed there doesn't seem to be a line like that between England and France so the last time I came back from Europe I'm guessing the map didn't trigger the system to update it's counrty specific stuff!  It's a theory that fits the facts anyway!
