Sync 3 Sat Nav update issues

Featured Replies

I'm trying to update my  Sync 3 Sat Nav using the USB procedure. I have a 2021 2.0L AUto Kuga ST Line and its currently showing Map Version 9, I think it needs to be version 11?  My internet speed outside the house is too slow to do it using wifi so I have to use the USB. I have followed the procedure as recommended, downloaded the latest Map to my computer, used a 32GB+ memory stick, Formated it to ExFAT, unzipped the file and dragged it to the memory stick. After its uploaded to the stick I insert into the USB port in the car and nothing happens. Its very frustrating, has anyone else had this issue and any suggestions how to get round this?

What exactly did you unzip ?

Do you have one folder with 'SyncMyRide' ? Post a screen shot of the root directory of the USB pen.

In the root directory there should be: One Folder, and two files (but you might not have the "DONTINDX" file).

In the SyncMyRide folder there will be 18 files before the install and there will be an extra log file once installation is finished.

Might be a daft question but have you downloaded the right file? It usually takes a couple of hours to download the correct update file. There is though another file that is very small and and of no use.

This file when opened shows 2 Zip files.   GBST-14G386-AE.tar.gz and GBST-14G386-CA.tar.gz

If you download this to the car it is done in a flash and leaves nothing to say it has ever been loaded and achieves nothing.

Sorry if you downloaded the correct file. Just a thought.

Hi Richard

Sorted. Thanks for all your comments.  I contacted Ford Chat in the end using my Ford Pass, they advised me to perform a SYNC master reset. On the screen select General and choose Master Reset to return to Factory defaults. It did the trick, when I inserted the Memory Stick the update started immediately. So thank you Ford Chat.

I was just about to advise you to do that.

Always make sure "install automatic updates" is on when you want to update

Then, when you plug in the USB, it will recognise it straight away

Turn Wi-Fi off, it doesn't work on Sync 3 and just slows the system down

Maps update will take about 45minutes
