Not new to Ford but I have recently got a 2011 diesel

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I am not new to ownership of a Ford I have previously owned a series 1 and 2 rs turbo but I have been given a 2011 focus diesel and want to know what the best starting modifications would be good to get some extra power from it it has low mileage for the age with just over 90k done and has only had one owner from new which was my grandad so I know the history of everything but I can't resist having a play around with it so any help would be appreciated

Hi welcome 🙂

Cheers mate hope you're well and I'm looking for an induction kit and a hornet exhaust system for my car would you recommend any other products for a starting point on the car I'm going to get a plug and play chip for it at the end of the month but do you have any recommendations for where and what would be the best ones to look at before I purchase any of them

Is it a late MK2.5 or an early MK3 and which engine type and how much power does it have?

Performance wise an induction kit and exhaust system will not bring much on a Diesel engine.

All of the MK2.5 and MK3 Petrol and Diesel versions (except MK2.5 ST) have the exact same air filter as the MK2.5/MK3.5 Focus RS. This standard air filter system is more than sufficient so performance wise there is nothing to gain. Since most of the inductions sounds are dampened by the turbocharger and intercooler trajectory anyway an induction kit will also not bring much from a sound perspective. Installing a K&N replacement filter in combination with the MK3.5 semi open RS air filter lid is a decent and cost effective alternative for an induction kit.

Similar factors apply to the exhaust system. Performance wise the exhaust system is not a bottleneck on any of the MK2.5 and MK3 Diesel versions. Again from a sound perspective most of the exhaust sound is dampened by the turbocharger anyway and most Diesel engines will not have a nice exhaust sound. On a Diesel engine many aftermarket exhaust systems will make the car sound like a tractor.

If it is performance that you are after I suggest to have the car remapped at a decent specialist. This will generate the biggest increase in power

It's a late mk2 and it's the 115hp I believe but I'll have to double check that and I understand that the turbo will probably make more noise than the induction kit but I will be happy with that and yeah I have been looking into getting it remapped there is a good company near me that have done a good job for a few friends of mine so I will more than likely go down that route in the future but another guy I was talking to said that he had good results with a blue spark plug and play box and it had 3 settings on it and they seem to be at a reasonable price for what I want to do with it so I'm in 2 minds about what I might do could you recommend a front mount intercooler I have heard that you can get some that are a straight swap and don't have to mess around with cutting the bumper and using the same mounting position is this true

Mk2.5 1.6 TDCI is 16 valve with either 90bhp or 110bhp.

Mk3 1.6 TDCI is 8 valve with 115bhp.

The 16v engine is well known for problems with carbon deposits blocking oilways and wrecking the turbo so well worth keeping up with oil changes.

I had one of these myself which was remapped 10 years ago by HDI-Tuning.  I had a 'safe' Stage 1 which was around 140bhp.  No other engine mods required.

It's a late mk2 and it's the 110 bhp and it's been regularly serviced by my local Ford dealer and it was my grandads from new so I know the history of the car it's only got just over 90k on the clock so I know that if I keep up with the regular maintenance it should be fine for quite a while to I don't want to go overboard with any of it just a few tweaks here and there
