Well the gear knob on my  MK4 focus st line x  MY18  has become rather worn and discoloured . Has anyone replaced there's and did you have to pay the extortionate price  beeing quoted online  or has anyone found  a decent alternative. Is it possible to replace the chrome looking insert ? because that's the only bit that's worn .

You can buy just the plastic insert, though even they cost over £50 from Ford.  There are some aftermarket parts available on eBay.

Could you post a picture?  I'm not sure exactly which gearknob design you'll have.

It does look similar unofix , maybe it is the same one. I should have had more sense to think these would have been a reasonable price lol.  Looking at after market ones but all I've seen so far look tacky .

I think that's the ball shaped knob, whereas older models used a more ergonomic shape.

In my younger days, I was always a fan of Momo gear knobs, really good quality if you can find a suitable one...

The red highlight was only for ST models but it should fit the same.

If the 'red' doesn't suit, you can use any colour enamel paint of your choice. I've restored vintage razors in the past and used the following technique to 'fill in' the numbers - on this video from about 1 minute 40 in...

 

I've had another closer look at the original gear knob you are intending to replace. Do you have access to a polishing wheel? If so, I reckon a bit of patience, with some jewelers rouge would bring that metal right back to gleaming, then if desired, you can colour the insert to what you wish. A nice Saturday project at very little cost...,

Haven't found anything cheaper  than the puma speed one I posted. Regards the polishing advised , it's gone beyond being able to do that because the top layer coating has come away .

Apologies for the polishing advice, at that price I assumed it was metal, not a bit of painted plastic! 😁

I’ve ordered the pumaspeed one but it has been held up due to the storm. i will let you know how it is once it arrives and i have it fitted if it fits.

hi £50 to make the car look new again doesn’t bother me but it also shouldn’t have worn that badly at 30k miles so you win some and you lose some

fits perfect. diesel version or ST though only since the petrols have a different reverse gear position
