Ecobuilds Leeds - Wetbelt replacement

Featured Replies

So after initially going to just take my sump off for inspection and check the oil pick up pipe I decided to have the wetbelt changed anyway.

I came across someone on here recommending Ecobuilds Leeds (Ecoboost specialists)

Their Facebook page seemed like they had done a fair few before so that was reassuring.

Plus they charge £850 and the cheapest I could find elsewhere was £1200-£2400.

Had it completed yesterday and I have to say what a lovely set of lads. I drove 2 hours each way to get to them. Don't expect an expensive fancy garage set up. This is a unit with a ramp but 2 lads who know their stuff and are genuinely helpful. They also sorted my O2 sensor for free while it was in.

Drove home last night without issue. But I will update this post in a few weeks after I've used it for a while.

I asked them to take a picture of the oil strainer. It did have a really very small amount of particles around the outside of the gauze but nothing more and nothing to concern me. (My car is a 2017 with 32k miles and no service book came with the car.) He said it had been looked after and was excellent internally so I'm guessing it must have been serviced accurately?

Anyway he also kept the old belts and water pump for me to take home. I have them in the garage and will get some pictures on here later.

They look in great condition. He showed me another belt which was clearly crumbling and in a horrible state.

My opinion:

I could have taken off the sump and then probably cleaned the strainer and left the belt for a few more years but increased the oil change to every 3-6 months.

****Before anyone jumps on why would you buy an Ecoboost without service history. It came with light damage from auction and they rarely come with the service book as they remove them for "data protection" apparently?

Anyway, someone is going to get a cracking car with the belt done. I will be using it until it sells or if it doesn't, I will be keeping it and using it until it does. This is my first ecoboost and I love this little engine. Would I buy another....... without the history....... probably not.

However saying that......most cars have some achilles heel so it can be pot luck.

Thanks Paul

That's good feedback Paul, thanks.

Do you have a full website address for these lads? I usually bookmark recommendations for future reference but  just tried googling that and got a builder!😀

Pleased it has all worked out well for you. 👍

I wonder if they do the wetbelt on a 2.0 EcoBlue ? I think that mine should really be changed next year.

No idea but there were no car sales nearby

Thats a good price, out if interest i asked my local Coventry garage for a quote to replace the wetbelt on my Ecosport, they quoted for what they would need to change in the process🤔

Replace Wetbelt, oil pump & water pump=£1584 inc vat

Just re-checked their quote, wonder if it just meant they needed to remove oil and water pump & sump , it seems a bit ambigous.

heres the wording..

"Good afternoon Rob
The quote for your Wetbelt and oil pump and water pump and sump removal the cost would be £1584inc vat "

I’m in South Shields Tyne and Wear

mine is booked in for February, I’m paying £950

the garage has done loads  of wet belts and was recommended to us

Quite a few appearing now around that price. It would be helpful to other members in that area If you could give a recommendation/contact details if all goes well.

The garage is in South Shields Tyne and Wear  … it’s called bills motoring based in maxwell street

Yes that’s the place

Theres quite a few becoming that cheap down south too.

MCR Automotive in Ruislip, London is £750 for the full works. Records himself doing it too so you can see all the work done. Mobile guy using his own Garage. Bunch of reviews on him and all positive

AMS in Berkshire is £850. Less reviews; quite a few saying his communication isn’t great but the work was spot on. Another Mobile guy but has a unit too it seems like.

then of course PL Automotive over Essex way at £800.

Other than Ford dealers only independents I've heard of so far:

https://www.woldsviewgarage.co.uk/resources/wet-belt-renewal

(but don't know of anyone who's used them), and

https://www.northernaccidentrepair.co.uk/locations/castleford/

A friend of mine had one done there a few months back and was very satisfied. (They'd serviced the car virtually from new, so he was familiar with them anyway)
