Oil light after first start

Featured Replies

Posted just now

I have an issue on my Ford C-Max 1.6 tdci 85kw 2014. After first start the oil light stays on for about 5 or 6 seconds and after that it's all good. Tried to change oil and oil filter again, didn't work, tried with the sensor still didn't work. So any help will do, thanks in advance.

5 seconds does seem a bit slow and in that case it's maybe something to do with oil itself, the pump pickup, filter, pressure relief valve or pump or ??

If it's just the first start of the day only it may be due to oil draining back from the filter for some unknown reason?
If you've changed the oil, filter and sensor for correct, quality parts with no change then I'd consider getting that actual pressure checked with a gauge to see what is going on.
Has this come from nowhere, all of a sudden, with no warning or started after a change that you have made?

This does need urgent attention, just in case?

Wrong oil filter, or wrongly fitted filter.

Yes it's only on the first start, after that oil light disappears instantly. I changed oil and oil filter again, this time used Ford oil and Mann filter, and it cut down from 10 seconds to 5, but thats still too much. I do have a feeling that the oil drains down from filter housing after a while so the light stays on untill it fills it up again. I don't really see how filter  can be wrongly fitted, however there is something i side the housing, like a valve or something with the spring, I'm not sure what it does. Screenshot_20250205-210832.thumb.png.cbc1119ad117786ab0761ac99ca6daab.png

You would be surprised at the ways people find to incorrectly fit oil filters. Some filters (not yours) have to fitted in a certain orientation. I've seen a filter fitted with two sealing gaskets and others where some of the clear plastic wrapping has been left on.

The spring valve inside the oil filter is an emergency by-pass valve for if the filter becomes completely blocked.

If the oil grade is correct, and the oil level is correct then there is little else left other than the filter and the oil pump.

Yeah there's always something idiotic to be seen. Thank you for the info, it really bugged me for a while.

I hope to god it's filter, I'll try again and order an original and see what happens, the oil pump would be pain in the *****, so much work to be done...

More than you ever wanted to know about oil filters etc:
