around a grand so far,

A friend of mine had one done for about  that recently. That's looking like the going rate for an independent at the mo.

Little tip when you drop your engine oil, tie an old t shirt on top of the drain pan so it acts as a sieve, that way you will catch can see how much belt debris has been floating around in the sump which should be a good indicator as to weather it’s knackered or not

There are plenty of threads about the wet belt in the Fiesta section, if you do a search. I had a quote of £1500 from my local main (Lookers) dealer. As you mentioned i'd plan for over a grand if done independently. There has been a recent thread that some people have had quotes of less than a grand (£850 ish), but I'm sure it depends on your location.

I'd normally say do the belt 1-2 years early, however I'm not sure having such a low mileage engine would do to the belt(s).

Well I have been caught out totally by this. I just bought a nice 1.0 Ecoboost with 96K on the clock, for my daughters first car.

Cheap to insure, no road tax, etc etc. Literally 2 days ago. I thought I might have to get the wet belt done and I thought it was going to be £600 ish.

But no. I'm quoted 11 to 1400 quid. I'm gutted as I had read reviews that said it's a great little car and the engine is great and fun to drive. Clearly I should have checked on Ford forums first.

So if I get it done - belt, water pump, oil and filter change and gaskets - will I at least have peace of mind that it'll be good for a few years now, or are there any other horrors I'm going to encounter? Thanks.

Bit the bullet and got mine done at 111,000 miles and 11 years old. Not sure how close I was to  an issue! 😜

Cost £1240, but that includes a new water pump

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

Yep, normally a timing belt is £300-£400 ish, However with the Ecoboost and wetbelts it's a great deal more! It's because it's a very labour intensive job, requiring special tools.

When you do I'd suggest, changing 3 belts, (timing, oil pump and Aux) tensioners, possibly oil pump, or at least a good inspection/clean of the pick-up strainer. The water pump isn't driven by the timing belt so doesn't need doing, but you can for peace of mind.
