Possible Ignition/Start button issue

Featured Replies

Hi all I hope someone might have a clue about this.  It is on a 65 plate 2ltr Galaxy Titanium Diesel

It is only when the car has warmed up but when I pull up to the lights or a roundabout, on occasion, the car will turn itself off and then on again. This can be just the once or it can wait until I have it in gear and just about to pull away. (It is honestly not me stalling).  I have driven it from Portsmouth to Plymouth and had very few issues.  However driving around town it can happen nearly every time is bring the wheels to a stop.  It has never happened whist driving, yet.  We have changed a sensor and the fuel filter but it is still happening.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received before I bite the bullet and pay the local Ford dealer charges me an arm, leg and my first born to have a look.

(Sorry any Ford dealers).

Oh dear !!!!

Could this be the first reported case of the Stop/Start system working 🤣

It's meant to do that, but if you don't like it (most people don't) then you can press the button and turn the feature off.

Hi Unofix. I thought that initially but the whole car turns off, not just the engine cutting out.  It is a push button start so the best analogy is that, imagine it was key start. Turning the key to off and taking it out.

Does that make more sense than it does when I read it back?

Ah OK.

That sounds like a fault with the S/S system. Do you have FORScan ?

No, does it require a laptop or would a chrome book work as well?  Also is the SS the Start Stop system?

Yes a windows based laptop, not chrome.

S/S = Stop Start

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

Thank you. Is there a particular version you would reccommend. I have just got the bluetooth adapter for my Android phone.

Due to sanctions against Russia the android version of FORScan is unfortunately unavailable at the present moment.

The windows laptop version can still be downloaded for free, and if you need to make some actual programming changes you can still get the free two month trial licence.

The iPhone version is still available from the Apple store as far as I know £6.99

If you already have the vLinker FD android OBDII adapter you can use it with a laptop for reading and clearing diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's)

Hi Buddy.

Plugged it in and got this back. So looks as if it might be just the starter button?

You could replace the Start button (check the wiring is plugged in first). If that fails to fix the fault then next would be to replace the RFA module.
