C Max Dipped headlights and rear brake lights not working

Featured Replies

Hi all, hoping someone could point me in the right direction. My C Max has developed issues with dipped headlights and rear brake lights. Side lights and full beam work fine as does the brake light in the boot spoiler. I've had it connected to Forscan and the codes B1D00:15-2F B1D01:15-2F C111B:15-2F C111A-15-2F have come up. I will check all the lamps tomorrow as its dark & raining at the moment!! I just find it very hard to believe that all 4 lamps have gone at the same time. I've checked the fuses and they are fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Very probably water ingress to the Body Control Module (BCM) which is part of the passenger compartment fuse box.

The centre rear brake light is on a separate circuit to the main brake lights. The full beam (high beam) lights are controlled via relay, but the dipped beam (low beam) is directly from the BCM.

So would a blast with WD40 potentially solve the problem? I was in that fuse compartment earlier today and didn't notice any visible moisture, obviously that's not to say its not there!

WD40 and the BCM don't really mix well, it's not something I'd recommend doing.

To rule out a possibly faulty bulb, firstly go around the car and remove all of the bulbs that are not working. Then test each bulb, one at a time. When you are sure they are good replace them one at a time with the lighting circuit turned on.

It is possible that you have a short-circuit in either one on the bulbs or one of the bulb holders. The BCM will shut down and isolate the circuit until the fault is fixed or removed.

Thanks, I'll get onto that first thing tomorrow. Hopefully its an easy fix as I need the car for our holiday later next week.
