Vaporiser

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon All,

I’ve got a problem with my kuga vaporiser not priming/clicking noise, I have checked voltage to connector - (8.4v) not sure what this should be. I have replaced the pump but still can’t get the pump to prime. Is there something I’m missing, any help greatly appreciated TIA

My best guesses as ever.

The pump (fuse?) requires pulses from the ECU to operate. This is only triggered when a regen is commanded so everything has to be right for that and can be monitored in Forscan.
The glow plug is activated first (fuse?) then after a time delay, the pump is pulsed.
There is (as you mention) a possible need to prime it and some scan tools can do this (never seen it on my Forscan menu?)
However the pump supply is teed off the main fuel supply line so I'd draw fuel through with a Mityvac (or other vacuum pump) all the way through to the pump outlet, clamp the flexible pipe that goes to the vaporiser and refit the pipe then unclamp it?
My DPF adviser said he's never known a pump to fail, they are a magnet and plunger (Amazon has loads for diesel fuel heaters but with different connectors/pipe sizes as a Ford part was, I think £600 (Gulp!?) when I asked some years ago)
You don't tell us the total back story...

Hi Shearers thanks for your reply very much appreciated 👍. Some great info there.
Yeah sorry not very well explained, when car purchased had usual problems with blocked dpf/high pressures, cleaned dpf reset values etc got all pressures etc working fine, went for a drive and got a dtc P246B vehicle conditions incorrect for particulate filter regeneration & another one (can’t remember/didn’t record 🙈) pointing to the vaporiser. Removed vaporiser found to be not blocked so replaced then found that the motor wasn’t clicking when I performed a vaporiser pump prime on my Topdon diag which looking on YouTube should operate the pump as if on a regeneration. Replaced the pump with second hand one (as you mention brand new £500 plus 😡) still not working. Fuses under bonnet all checked and ok.
Would a faulty vaporiser cause this issue as thinking about it I haven’t checked if the heater part is working, my initial thoughts would be no, other than that a possible ecu communication problem?.
