About to buy a Focus ST line 2019/20

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice, I’d love to get some opinions, please.

I’m hoping to buy a Focus ST line. I’m hearing alot of alarm reports about the wet belts and it’s putting me off. I really like the car.

How much of a problem are the wet belts? Should I be worried? If the car is regularly serviced, do they still go wrong? When do they need replacing?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Dave

Depends which version - I had a 1.5 diesel ST-Line which did not have the wet belt. If you are looking at that engine, I recollect seeing 2 on the dealer's forecourt, a 2019 model and a 2020 model which I bought. This had an adblue tank, the earlier one as I recollect didn't. If this isn't the engine you are looking at ignore this post!!

Are you thinking of buying the Ecoboost 1.0 ?

If so, then I'd think again.

A 2019/20 Focus Mk 4 1.0 Ecoboost would have a chain cam drive. However, the oil pump is still driven by a wet belt.

We have seen the odd problem on here but not to the extent of cambelts on the earlier engine in the Mk 3. The usual advice about careful maintenance with correct oil applies.

Replacement is 150k/10 years.
