Judder when taking up clutch in 1st

Featured Replies

I’ve a 10.5 year old (64 plate) 1.6 petrol Ecoboost, manual Grand C-max, ~85,000 miles.

She judders when taking up the clutch to pull away in 1st gear. Sometimes hardly noticeable, sometimes you have to balance the clutch really carefully as it feels about to stall. I’ve not worked out of there a trend. Any educated ideas what it will be, please?

She’s also using coolant (doesn’t seem to run better when this is filled), oil is slightly lower than usual (still between markers), ABS and ESP flag up occasionally (unlikely to be linked but who knows? 😉) and if we’re listing the lot the tyre pressure sensors aren’t detected (but I can live with that one!). 🙄

She’s a day out booked on Tuesday to the local Ford garage so hoping that will cheer us all up… 🤞💷💷💷

(I’m really hoping it’s worth fixing it all as she’s perfect for my life!!!)

Hi,

To be fair and, importantly, honest

Ford is the last place I'd take a car that old too.

They'll tell you you need new everything

Quite common with these, get the gearbox mounts checked, failing that, you may need a clutch

A common problem with these was cracked heads or blown head gaskets, I hope that's not what you've got

Top it up then🤪

Probably need a wheel sensor

Probably a faulty transmitter or it has been damaged or removed during tyre replacements

I would just fix what fails for MOT, keep topping up (and keep an eye on) the coolant and oil and run it into the ground

Be careful with Ford. Ask for a quote first — they might charge you more than the car is worth. 100% agree with Dave.
