Key Replacement and separate chip

Featured Replies

Hi Team,

I recently lost one of the 2 keys of my Kuga 2015. The last one I have is eating a brand new battery (energizer) in 3 days so I suspect there is some parasitic happening or short.
It got water damaged a while ago but let it soak in 100% Isopropyl for a night and brushed it. Nevertheless, working but still eat batteries in 3 days.
At some point it's just struggling and I need to push 5-6 times until it opens.

I decided to order a replacement from Aliexpress. Checked the reference and made sure I had the correct chip coming with it.

Now, I have a bit of a problem. The original key doesn't have an apparent chip, or not similar to the one they sent me with my key (see attached picture)

I'd like to know if a similar chip is present in the original key casing ?
Is that normal that I received it separated like that ?

Also, I have ForsCan and a correct adapter so I'll be able to add another key (hopefully).
How is that feasible with the chip separated like that ? Do I just need to make sure I fit it in somewhere in the key while I program it ?

Please let me know what you think. Thanks guys

Ford vehicles built 2013 onwards, mostly can not have keys programmed in using FORScan. It is normally a Ford dealer only job.

"Keys Pro to Go", cut and programmed my key for me.

2014 Focus MK3

Any half descent AUTEL or similar will program new keys, however best to get them from Ford and program them yourself. Think they charge 50-60 £ for the service. maybe even more.

Just wanted to give an update.

After closer examination, another part of the key was in fact removable to allow the transponder to be installed.
The red part in the attached picture is the one that needed to be uncliped. You need to apply a bit of force, but once removed, you can put the transponder into the green area. There is a slot under the green part that we don't see on the picture.
Once reassembled, Intelligent Acces key programmed on Forscan with only 1 original key in my possession.

Careful, make sure Forscan has acces to internet while doing that (I just shared internet connection from Smartphone to PC) + Paid licence (not the free 2months, but the real 1 year paid licence)
Ignore the first message saying "suspect not compatible key"

I hope the precisions will help someone else in a similar situation.

Cheers
